The Trees are beginning to look bare, and depending on where you are in the world it might be time to start pulling out your winter coat. However, if you're a reader who wants to squeeze every good moment out of Fall, Wishtress by Nadine Brandes is a book that instantly got me back in the Fall mood
Quick Synopsis
Myrthe was born with the ability to turn her tears into wishes. But when a granted wish goes wrong, she is cursed: the next tear she sheds will kill her…
I loved this book so much! It is one of the few books that made me both laugh and cry. I could gush and talk about this non stop but there are 4 main reasons why I loved this book so much.
1. The main character, Myrthe, is such a sweetheart! She is kind and generous, so it was so interesting to watch her navigate living a life where she has to try and harden her heart.
2. The romance in this book is so wholesome. Hopefully not a spoiler…but her love interest, Bastiaan is such a compassionate and understanding character. He becomes one of the first people to truly see Myrthe for more than just her ability to grant wishes. Now I am all for the edgy, intense enemies-to-lovers romance, but sometimes it is refreshing to read a sweet and unproblemtic romance from time to time.
3. This book was an emotional rollercoster. The author kept me on my feet wondering what was going to happen to the characters and how it was going to end. And the ending managed to be satisfying withou the author having to tie every single loose end.
4. And lastly I loved this book aesthetic. A book’s aesthetic is so hard to define but here goes. It was just fall, from the leaves on the page to the setting where Myrthe grew up, to the trials of the different seasons, it was all very satisfying. This is the kind of book that makes you want to cozy up by the fire, under a blanket, with rain beating on the roof. It was one of the best cozy fantasy books that I have read in a long time, so I would highly recommend!
Wishing all you Readers the best of Fall, Winter, and all the other Seasons,
JB
